WHO ARE NUNC? Formed in November 2014, they are Flossy McDougal, Geoff Veasey and John Kearney. Flossy sang and recorded previously in Pennyroyal along with Linda Dickson and Sue Dixon. Geoff sang and recorded previously with Black Parrot Seaside. John is a respected singer/songwriter and a member of various bands including Romeo's Butcher. He hails from Cork, with a musical background in pretty well everything from Punk to Country. WHY NUNC? Nunc is latin for "Now"-and is intended to reflect new beginnings after previous bands folded. Flossy is Geoff's Niece. Niece+Uncle=???
WHERE CAN WE SEE THEM? As Nuneaton Folk Club's Resident "House Band" they open and compere both halves on the first Wednesday of every month at The Crown Inn, Nuneaton. They have also appeared at Warwick, Bedworth, Atherstone and Stockton Folk Clubs. Other venues they have played include Willow and Tool's Music Parlour, Long Itchington, The Tump Folk Club, Sty Folk Club , Drapers Bar, The Twisted Barrel Brewery Tap, Ragged Bear Festival,The Broomfield Tavern,(Coventry), Nuneaton Beer Festival, Stonefest, Heart of England Club, Meriden and The Abbey Theatre. This Autumn they are lined up for The Nursery Tavern, Warwick Words Festival,Triumph Social Club Coventry and Bedworth Folk Festival.
WHAT SORT OF MATERIAL? An eclectic set list includes some traditional folk songs, some originals, some Blues and some Country. It also features covers of songs by Neil Young, Crowded House, Sam Cooke, Kasey Chambers, Bonnie Raitt, Richard and Linda Thompson, Bob Dylan, The Incredible String Band and Eddi Reader. Most songs are adapted to a unique arrangement, with three part harmonies and some are run together, as medleys or segues. This format is popular with audiences who like to sing along.
